“ I beat myself up that the idea of being on PTA repulses me.” Yes! I assuaged my guilt by joining our schools’ SAC (School Advisory Council) committees, which felt much more professional and were within my comfort zone. But I also distinctly remember feeling just the way you do — it’s all so much more challenging than I ever expected, and I will second-guess my parenting for the rest of my life, but all we can do is the best we can. Just the fact that you think about it is enough, and while this is hard, try to remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can, and that’s plenty. Thankfully, our youngest is now 18. I read a great book years ago, “Get Out of My Life — But First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall?” that helped a lot. It’s a mix of humor and good advice.
